Sunday, February 5th, the Clayton County Food Shelf will conduct its 13th annual "Souper Bowl Sunday". Youth from each church will use large soup pots to collect $1 from each parishioner as they leave worship the morning of the game, using all the funds to help feed the hungry in Clayton County.

Monday, February 6th, the Manchester American Legion Post will host their monthly meeting at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester at 7 pm in the 1st Floor South Recreation Room. All veterans and family members invited. Representatives of the local Veterans Affairs Office will present items of interest and be available to answer questions.

Saturday, February 11th, the Backbone Bluegrass Festival will host a "Taste of Bluegrass" Soup Supper from 4 to 7 pm at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Manchester. Serving several kinds of soup for a free will donation. Listen to some bluegrass music and you're welcome to bring your instruments for some jammin' fun! 50/50 Raffle as well.
Saturday, February 11th, the U.S. Tug of War team will host a fundraiser at Betty's Bread Basket in Manchester. Bring your Valentine to dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 pm for your choice of prime rib, chicken breast glazed in cherry wine sauce or baked lemon butter salmon. Dinner will be served by the Tug of War team and all proceeds will go to the team as well. This dinner is by reservation only - call Betty's at 927-4611.

Sunday, February 12th, the Sand Springs Community Center will hold its annual horse drawn sleigh rides from 11 am to 3 pm. Donations will be accepted for sleigh rides. The Hopkinton Lions Club will also host a lunchstand, serving soup, sandwiches, desserts and beverages, with proceeds donated to Laisee Shakespeare to help defray the cost of her trip to Europe as a student ambassador.
Sunday, February 12th, an Ice Fishing Derby will be held at Heartland Acres Agribition Center in Independence. Fishing derby competition runs from 1 to 4 pm. Chili cookoff runs from 11 am to 2 pm. Stop out to watch the fishing or get some chili for a free-will donation.
Sunday, February 12th, St. John's Lutheran Church will host a Valentine's Breakfast from 7:30 to 11:30 am at the Hopkinton Community Center. Serving blueberry french toast, pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruitcups and drinks. Bake sale. Adults $6, kids 6-12 $4 and kids 5 and under free.
Sunday, February 12th, a Valentine Breakfast fundraiser will be held from 8 am to noon at Aunt Necee's Pizza in Edgewood. Serving Belgian Waffles, strawberries and whipped cream, scrambled eggs, sausage, cinnamon rolls and drinks. Adults $6, children 4-12 $4 and kids under 3 free. Carryouts available. Proceeds go to Kinderwood Childcare Center.

Monday, February 20th, the Manchester Good to Great River and Recreation Committee will hold a public information meeting to talk about the proposed Whitewater Park and Habitat Improvements at the Marion Street Dam. Meeting includes a presentation from a representative from Recreation Engineering and Planning. They'll answer questions afterwards. Anyone interested can attend. Meeting begins at 6 pm in the F&M Bank Community Room in Manchester.
Tuesday, February 21st, the Delaware County Community Services Advisory Board meeting will be held at 10 am at the Community Services building in Manchester.
Saturday, February 25th, a benefit will be held for Ray "Rayzor" Schneider at the Monticello Eagles Club. Schneider has been diagnosed with a very aggressive form of brain cancer. The benefit will help with his medical bills. Texas Hold 'Em Tournament starts at noon, Euchre tournament starts at 2 pm, live and silent auction from 6 to 9 pm and a dance with live music by Jason Leroy at 9 pm. The Delaware County Dairy Council is seeking candidates for Dairy Royalty - including Dairy Princess, Little Miss Squirt and Little Mr. Herdsman. Dairy Princess candidates must be between 16-21 years old by March 1st, her parents must own dairy cattle or work part-time on a dairy farm, and she must live in Delaware County. The West Delaware Destination Imagination Team is collecting gently-used children's books to help promote reading and literacy among youth. The books can be dropped off at several locations, including First State Bank, F&M Bank, Shear Magic, the Coffee Den, Blakesley's Pharmacy, Methodist Church and Presbyterian Church. The donated books will be distributed on Feburary 23rd at the Manchester Public Library from 4 to 6 pm - all children and parents are invited to come and enjoy treats and games. The Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District is holding its annual Soil and Water Conservation Poster Contest. Delaware County residents in grades K-12 are eligible to participate. Five divisions - with each first place poster in each division receiving a $15 award. Winning posters will go on to the state poster contest and would be eligible for additional prizes. Posters must be on regular poster paper - no smaller than 8.5 x 11" or larger than 22 x 28". You can use any medium. No three-dimensional effects. Posters need to reflect the theme of "Soil to Spoon", with the theme also on the poster. Entry deadline is March 31st. For more info, call the Conservation office at 927-4590. February is Library Lovers' Month and the Friends of the Manchester Public Library are holding a special membership drive. Donations may be left at the "Request Clothing Closet" door on Monday and Thursday between 8 am and 4 pm. The donations will be shared with others in the community.
